Climate for the future: LAFI implements a sustainable cooling solution for LMT
This year, as we celebrated 29 years of experience, we visited one of Latvia’s most dynamic technology innovators – LMT – where our team, led by project manager Arta Pavasara, carried out a significant project – replacing the cooling equipment with modern, energy-efficient heat pumps.
During the project, the old equipment was dismantled and disposed of, and this work was particularly technically challenging – it had to be brought down from the roof of the nine-storey building using specialised equipment. The work required precise planning and strict adherence to safety measures. As a result, two energy-efficient heat pumps were installed, with a total cooling capacity of 922 kW and a heating capacity of 657 kW. When the outdoor air temperature falls below -7 °C, a gas boiler automatically switches on to serve as a secondary heat source. Both the heat pumps and the gas boilers are connected to a unified control system that evaluates electricity and gas tariffs, ensuring the operation of the most cost-effective heat source.
These new installations and systems enable significant energy savings whilst maintaining a high-quality and stable indoor climate. We look back with satisfaction on what we have achieved and continue to develop solutions that help our customers use energy more efficiently and sustainably.
